Ghost Stories (Gakkō no Kaidan, lit. “School Ghost Stories”), also known as Ghosts at School, is a 20-episode anime series created in 2000 by animation studio Pierrot and Aniplex for Fuji Television, based on a book series by Tōru Tsunemitsu.
Storyline: Ghost Stories tells the tale of Satsuki Miyanoshita, who moves with her family to the hometown of her deceased mother. On her first day of school, Satsuki; her brother Keiichirou, a first-grader; their neighbor Hajime Aoyama; Momoko Koigakubo, an older schoolmate; and Leo Kakinoki, a classmate and friend of Hajime’s with a penchant for the paranormal visit the abandoned school building adjacent the current school complex and discover that the building is haunted.

Episode 1: Tonight the Spirits Will Be Resurrected! Amanojaku
Satsuki, the new kid in town is getting ready for her first day at school. When Satsuki and Keiichirou (her brother) are walking up the front steps of the school house, their cat escapes, running away from them into the old school house that is supposedly cursed.
Episode 2: A Hand Reaches Out of the Toilet… Akagami Aogami
Kaya’s body is now possessed by Amanojaku. At the school, the plumbing system malfunctions.
Episode 3: Raise the Curtains! The Cursed School Arts Festival! Kutabe
Keita gets the lead role for the play his class is putting on. He wishes for accidents to happen so he doesn’t have to perform. His wish comes true and he is sent to the hospital.
Episode 4: Requiem from the Dead – Elise
Satsuki helps a teacher take some boxes into the old school house’s music room. She ends up alone and hears “Fur Elise”. She finds out that if she hears the song four times, she will die.
Episode 5: The Bloody Sports Festival – Datto!!
Keiichiro comes running to Satsuki with tears in his eyes again, and Satsuki decides to help Keiichirou boost his self-confidence by suggesting he enter the school’s athletic event.
Episode 6: The Demon’s Hand Splits the Door – Night of Tragedy
After hearing stories of children becoming ill due to some horrifying experience, Satsuki, Hajime, and Leo wonder if the incidents were caused by a ghost.
Episode 7: The Soul-Stealing Mirror!! Utsushimi
A rumor about mysterious occurrences concerning mirrors begins to float around. It is said that victims of the mirrors begin to act very strange. One by one, strange things begin to happen to people.
Episode 8: The Circuit Connects to Hell – Demon of the Underworld
Leo believes there’s a ghost in cyberspace and becomes determined to find the “Yomi-Net”, a ghost’s homepage. His curiosity to find it results in him getting dragged to the river styx through cyberspace.

Episode 9: The Corpse that Roams in the Night – Shirotabi
A rabbit named Shirotabi died while in Mio’s care. Mio casted a form of magic to bring the rabbit back to life, but it resulted in the rabbit going mad. Satsuki is forced to stop Shirotabi once and for all.
Episode 11: The Talking Mary Doll!! Shadow of Terror
A doll mysteriously appears in Satsuki’s house and she assumes Keiichirou had something to do with it. Satsuki begins to receive harassing phone calls from what appears to be the doll.
Episode 13: The Picture that Swallows People – Da Vinci
Satsuki accidentally revives an evil spirit known as “Da Vinci” by painting a picture of the old school house and winning an art contest. Da Vinci’s power is deadly: whatever he paints has its life sucked away by the painting.
Episode 15: The Devil’s Spell – Rite of Darkness
Charms and spells become popular among the girls on campus. One of the girls, Shinobu, shows them how to make any wish come true, but she lied, and all of the girls who tried the spell begin to have problems.
Episode 16: The Apartment That Eats People! Nest of Evil Spirits
The gang decides to investigate a haunted apartment block after school.
